adam and i have been wanting to find a new church to go to. one where we weren't just another number walking into the service. one that we feel where we can be active participants. one that is similar to the type of churches that we both grew up in (adam--catholic, myself--lutheran). somewhere not far from where we live. a church that has a ministry for our age group.
i feel like we found that church today. we went to covenant united methodist church. as soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted by several people. ever since i moved to austin, i have looked around for a home church. never have i felt so welcome. we are definitely going back next sunday and we are going to go to the young professionals sunday school class. i am so excited to meet the other people our age.
covenant is a fairly small church in the middle of a neighborhood. just what i was looking for. i think it is so important for people to feel a sense of community and to feel that they are an important part of a community. going to a big church in a big city, i didn't feel that. going to a small church in a big city, i feel like it will be easier to feel the sense of community as most people know each other. a small community provides a sense of comfort.
maybe you are different. you love your big church. you feel connected and are active in it. a lot of people love the unique things that a large church can offer. i think the reason my preference is for a smaller church is because i grew up in a town, not a city so the large church just seems too large for me.

Laura- I am so glad that you enjoyed yourself at Covenant! I grew up in this church and my parents still go there today (they live across the street! :)
I am Jennifer's mom, and I am very glad that you liked the service and the Church. We have been members for 22 years - and we like it a lot. I think you will love the Young Professionals class. A lot of young people your age, some married, some single, some parents, and some not. When you go, look for Todd and Candace Baker or Jennifer and Ethan Jackson. I hope to see you one Sunday.
