blogs of interest

strength. courage. faith. these women have it.

i have come across some new blogs lately and a few stood out. they are all written by strong women who value their family and faith above all.

1. http://nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/
--this blog was first written by a woman who goes by the nickname of "nie-nie." she is an amazing writer and is great at capturing everyday photos of her life with 4 young kids. she would write like an author or poet. that was until she and her husband, who she is madly in love with, were in a plane crash in august. since then, she has been in a coma and is finally recovering with her husband. her sister keeps up with her blog re-publishing posts that nie-nie had already posted. her zest for life is inspirational.

2. http://thevoiceofadventure.blogspot.com/
--this blog is written by a women is an advocate for adoption. she has one child that she gave birth to and two that were adopted from other countries (one of which was 5 at the time of adoption). she and her other blog friends really take heart at caring for ALL of God's little children and are active in charities and in their own lives (through adoption) to do so. i love that. it's so true that we all play a part in making the world a better place for the future and it starts with the children of today.

3. http://audreycaroline.blogspot.com/
--this blog is written by a mother of 4 who recently had a baby that only lived for a few hours. she found out about her baby's condition months before the baby was born. she speaks candidly about her feelings and struggles during this time. the fact that she pores her heart on her blog amazes me. her courage, beyond words.

the reception. let them eat cake!

thanks so much to all of you who joined us for the wedding! we loved getting to share our special night with you. [those oh-so-cute favors were handmade by adam's mom, all 300+ of them.!]my dad and i's cordinated father-daughter dance to my girl. it was definitely a hit and got the party started! (also, notice the white chair covers in the background...chair covers are my fav!)
i couldn't resist. i had to get something monogrammed. and, i had to get an ice sculpture.
i had a great time dancing at the wedding reception.
we had a 12-man orchestra, the nash hernandez orchestra. they play traditional music, jazz, salsa. all of their songs are classy and good for a crowd of young kids to 90 year-olds. something for everyone.
a posed picture of adam and i. no, he doesn't play the piano.

our simple cake.

partyin' with the pumpkins

my teacher friend, annalee (http://www.annaleeper.blogspot.com/), used to have pumpkin-carving parties. i thought, what a great idea. so, i had adam's family over to carve pumpkins.
here are our cute little pumpkins before their face lifts.
eating dinner and looking clean.
this is what the guys did the whole time. watch the longhorns. watch football or carve a pumpkin? definitely...carve a pumpkin for me.
here we are getting our hands messy and gooey.
apparently, i didn't like the way my hands felt cleaning the inside of a pumpkin.
adam's mom and sister working hard.
here we are with our creation.
i soon realized that our pumpkin was the "special" pumpkin. it's the one that won't stand up straight and has our crooked initials on it. the others were beautiful creations. a starry pumpkin, an aggie pumpkin, a tiny little pumpkin face, and an ornate flower pumpkin.

ghosts, goblins and graveyards...oh, my!!!

today, the kinder team was in charge of bringing snacks for the teacher meeting! we all chipped in our talents to make some tasty halloween treats. my talent lies in being able to get plates, cups and napkins from the store! luckily, my team members' abilities are beyond mine. here are some of the treats they made...
cathy's chocolate graveyard--D-lish!! chocolate pudding with crumbled oreos white, oval cookies on top. you can also see rachel's yummy pumpkin cookies.
jodena's ghosts--how cute are these! nutter butters with melted white chocolate on top

la dolce vita...the sweet life

on thursday night, adam and i went out to celebrate 1 year of being together. adam planned the night and wanted to surprise me as to what we would be doing.

we headed downtown for dinner. "adam, i bet we are going to the restaurant where we had our 1st date." adam's reply, "hah. no, of course not. that would be too obvious."
but that's where we ended up going. the 2nd time's the charm. we ate at taverna, where we had our 1st date 1 year ago. this time, we ate outside on the patio. great for people watching.
it reminds me of a european cafe. you can sit outside and enjoy the weather. the restaurant is located on the corner of a cute, narrow street downtown with modern shops on it. the trees are lit up at night.
we ate italian-style pizza with mozzarella and shrimp. as we were eating i saw the horse and buggy go by. "adam, we should do that next." adam replied, "oh, no. we can't tonight. i didn't bring any cash on me." ok.
the next thing i know a horse and buggy came up to the restaurant to pick us up. adam had the ride planned all along! after the fun carriage ride, we were tired and ready to go home. however, adam said he wanted to take the scenic route on our way home. little did i know, he had 1 more stop planned.
gelato at dolce vita. adam knows i love gelato especially at dolce vita.
i agree with the gelato shop's name...it is a dolce vita.

sick and tired of being sick and tired

here in the unnasch household, we are sick and tired of getting sick...

last week, i had a terrible case of strep throat and was out of school for 3 days (although the doctor said i should have been out all week) and sick all weekend. 5 days of fever. with an extremely sore throat and being so nauseated, i couldn't hold liquid down. this caused me to become very dehydrated. the dehydration led to my blood sugar going way below normal and i almost fainted. the doctors had to hook me up to an IV to get some liquid in my stomach and to give me the medicine that i coudn't hold down. the doctors said if i couldn't keep some liguid down, i would have to be hospitalized. luckily, i was a able to take some strong medicine that allowed me to keep liquids down and recovered.

less than a week later...adam is now a little sickie. he had the same symptoms lastnight that i had except no sore throat (thankfully). i can only pray that he gets better soon and that i don't get what he has because i am "sick and tired of being sick and tired" and having our home full of sickness. it looks like he is feeling much better today so i am crossing both fingers.

4 + 5 + 3 = 12 months of happiness

it was exactly 1 year ago from today that i met adam. we never knew that day that a year later we would be married. 4 months of dating, then 5 months of engagement and now 3 months of marrried life in 1 year! unfortunately, adam is away for the night for work. we celebrate tomorrow. although he's not here with me, i'll tell you a few reasons that make him a super husband.

he is a man of integrity and has great values. adam strives to do what's right and it's reflected in all he does.
he is extremely thoughtful. he will make my lunch for school with notes that say "i love you."
he is romantic. for our engagement, adam made a scrapbook about all the dates we had been on!
he is a family man. right after i met adam, i realized how close he was to his family and i love that. family is definitely important to a marriage.
he puts others first. adam loves to help others and never thinks twice to do so.
he has a heart of gold. i have never heard him say 1 bad thing about anyone.
he loves the Lord. one of my favorite times with adam is when we pray together before we go to bed. that was his idea.
he is hard-working. he got his master's while working full-time and graduated with almost all As.
he likes to try new things. i love to travel, try new foods, try new things, have unigue experiences, so i am so glad adam is ready and willing to have exciting adventures with me.
he is even-keeled. adam stays pretty calm which is a great trait to have in a partner on this journey of life.

needless to say, i am SO thankful to have adam as my husband and look forward to many years to come!

to camp or not to camp

the simple life. camping fall '08.
adam's dad BBQing ribs.
sunset.
precious family.
adam and i paddle boating.
the tent we got as a wedding gift that adam enjoyed alone. adam, you love camping, smile!

adam went camping with the guys in his family this weekend at ink's lake. adam's sister, mom and i (along with the baby) came up for the day to visit.

adam is now asking me if i would like to join him on a camping adventure the next time he goes. i have never been camping before. frankly, the idea of it not only doesn't sound appealling. it sounds frightening to me. i like sleeping in a bed and in a bedroom where i can control any discomforts. if it's too cold, adjust the air temperature. need to go to the bathroom, go to a real bathroom with real soap. adam really wants me to try to toughen up and try to camp out so we will see if he can get me to. until then, i will just camp out during the day with the gals.

my love for india

yes, i have a saree, actually two. read on to find out where i got it...
ebestasia.com/
friday night was fall festival night at our school. i always love to go as i get to see so many former students and their families. this festival was a hit as it was totally packed! look who i ran into. one of my favorite families. the son was in my class last year, NEATEST kid. he always made me laugh with his excitement about life and learning. i really think that he is a genius so that was neat, too, getting to teach a genius! hehe.

his family is one of the most fun, kind families i have ever met. the guptas' genorosity, hospitality, and thoughtfulness are overflowing. they had me over 3 times last year for indian cuisine and let me tell you, they brought out the 9s! they sure do know how to entertain. not only that, they fostered my love for anything indian. when i say that i have been over to the gupta's for indian food, i don't just mean a couple of dishes. it's an all day affair with a five course meal--dad's barbequeing kabobs and meat, mom's in the kitchen.

my experience at the guptas, never ends with just food. they showed me their hindu shrine to the hindu gods. there is a god for everything. they showed me wedding pictures of their indian wedding. indian weddings go all out with the celebration lasting multiple days. remember the movie, monsoon wedding? the bride is decked out in beautiful, bright colors. amazing. the guptas also showed me their elephants (decorations) around the room. apparently, hindu indians believe that elephants are a symbol of wealth. so, you put them all over your house for good fortune. you must make sure they are facing a certain way. otherwise, you will have bad luck!

the guptas didn't leave me empty handed when i would leave, they gave me the leftovers and also, some things that they got in india! they gave me two blankets and two beautiful sarees! if you ever see me wearing a saree, you will know wear i got it from.=)

mrs. gupta asked if adam and i want to come over next month--OF COURSE. i can't wait.
